Design Challenge: How
to scale-up the magic of a great full-range single driver
loudspeaker such as the Role Audio Sampan into the performance
of larger floor standing loudspeakers.
A well designed full-range, single
driver, crossover-less loudspeaker such as the Role Audio Sampan
can perform most of the magic that is the holy grail for audiophiles
and music lovers.
The Role Audio Sampan have been
described by the cognoscenti as producing music to die
for, it images so well that it is, The greatest disappearing
act since Houdini, and it creates excitement, that
few loudspeakers on the planet can match, and it is, capable
of deceiving listeners to think they are listening to a large
loudspeaker, because of its humungous soundstage and its
bass prowess. The Sampan achieves its magic and coherence in
part because it is a time coherent, phase coherent, point source,
without the phase and crossover anomalies that afflict multi-driver
loudspeakers.
The challenge is how to design
loudspeakers that produce large scale performance while retaining
the magic and the purity of sound present in 3.5 inch full-range
loudspeakers. The Mastering Series is a response to this challenge.
And designs by other manufacturers, including the Thiel CS3.7
and the KEF Reference 205/2 loudspeakers can be seen as efforts
to recreate or scale up the magic of the full range, single driver
loudspeaker into the performance of larger loudspeakers. Like
the Mastering Series, both the Thiel's CS3.7 and KEF's Reference
205/2 use coincident drivers in their designs, but there the
similarities end. Unlike both Theil CS3.7 and the KEF's reference
205/2, all the loudspeakers in The Mastering Series are two-way,
time coherent, transient perfect, first order, point sources
that preserve the great performance qualities of full-range single
driver loudspeakers.

Two-way, time coherent, transient perfect, first order, point
source, concentric driver array loudspeakers
We present the Mastering Series
of powerful, compact, true point source, loudspeakers that provide
extraordinary imaging with riveting, powerful, bass response.
In addition, all Mastering Series loudspeakers are certified
"green," or eco-friendly and health friendly.
NSMT Loudspeakers has over sixteen
years of research and development experience with concentric
driver array, point source loudspeakers. We first introduced
the 20M, our first concentric driver array, point source loudspeaker,
in January 1994, at the International Consumer Electronics Show
in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The speaker won acclaim for its superb
soundstage presentation.
In addition to the other factors
that enhance the performance of all NSMT Loudspeakers loudspeakers,
our point source designs generally offer a more coherent and
accurate presentation of music.
One reason is that point source
loudspeakers generally have superior off-axis performance due
to the fact that the sound emanates from one place. Hence there
is no issue of incoherence between drivers which can result in
parts of the sound wave arriving at the listeners ear at different
times. Minimonitors generally avoid these issues by of close
arrangement of the drivers.
This explains why point source loudspeakers image better than
conventional loudspeakers. And imaging is one of the most important
indication of how well a loudspeaker is designed.
Some people may feel they get
more value for their money if a loudspeaker has many drivers.
However, if you are concerned about accuracy and performance
the point source loudspeaker is proof that "less is more."
Superior off-axis response, and
phase accuracy which sum to better imaging and more accurate
soundstage presentation, make the point source loudspeakers some
of the most appropriate designs for stereo and contemporary multi-channel
home theater and surround sound systems.
Special Features:
Two-way, time coherent,
first order, point source, concentric driver array, acoustic suspension
and transmission line designs

"green" (free of Formaldehyde and toxic materials and
chemicals).
Contemporary shallow designs (8.5 to 12.5 inches deep) will not
block flat screen TV viewing angles.
Mid and high frequency section of towers inspired by the Model
20M loudspeaker design.
Accept our recommended bass settings for the 60M and 100M, for
the most neutral bass response, or take total control of full-featured
built in active subwoofer to shape bass response to your liking.
Available in certified "green" birch plywood or satin
black formaldehyde free MDF with black cloth applied as a veneer.
